Most pharmacies in Tasmania are Access Points for the NDSS. This means, they can supply you with any of the diabetes products subsidised by the government scheme. If they don’t have what you need in stock, they can order it for you in a couple of days.
For example, your pharmacy can supply you with:
- a glucose monitor and testing strips
- ketone testing strips
- insulin pen needles (free)
- insulin pump consumables
- sensors and replacement transmitters for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices.
They can also provide you with hypo treatments, such as glucose gel or tablets.
Your pharmacist can check your blood pressure as well as give you advice on your medications: what they do, how and when to take them and what to look out for in terms of side effects.
Your GP can also arrange a pharmacist to carry out a Home Medication Review.
