Meet our staff
Diabetes Tasmania prides itself on having qualified, professional and friendly staff to service the needs of not only the organisation but also all Tasmanians living with diabetes, from our health professionals to our office and administration staff - we are here for you. We have 34 staff members across the state, from the south, to the north and across the north west. We service the whole of Tasmania, providing education, services, programs and awareness.
Caroline Wells, Chief Executive Officer
Caroline has held the role of CEO with Diabetes Tasmania since 2005. Coming from a nursing background originally, she has a strong interest in preventative health, particularly related to chronic disease, and is a passionate advocate for people affected by diabetes and raising the awareness of the seriousness and impact of diabetes. In her time away from the office, Caroline enjoys cooking, reading, gardening, adores her cat Gus and spending special time with her husband, grandchildren and friends.
Leanne Clark, Operations Manager
Leanne started with Diabetes Tasmania in 2001. She is responsible for the day to day operations of the organisation, finance and making sure everything is running as it should. Leanne has led one of our fundraising charity challenges and when not at work enjoys spending time with family and friends at her East Coast shack, getting out and about in nature bush walking and winding down the day with a glass of wine around the camp fire.
Laura Scott, Clinical Manager - South, APD
Laura is one of our Accredited Practising Dietitians and Clinical Managers based in Hobart, she has been with Diabetes Tasmania since 2014. She travels around Southern Tasmania helping people to enjoy food as much as she does.
Minke Hoekstra, Health and Advocacy Manager, APD
Minke is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Health and Advocacy Manager and has worked at Diabetes Tasmania for almost 10 years. In addition to advocating for all Tasmanians affected by diabetes, Minke manages the organizations’ delivery of The Coach Program, an evidence-based telephone health coaching service primarily for people at risk of, or with type 2 diabetes. In her spare time, Minke enjoys cooking, singing and running or mountain biking with her family.
Myles Clarkson Fletcher, Service Development Manager, CDNE
Myles is a credentialled diabetes educator and registered nurse based in our Hobart office. He joined Diabetes Tasmania as the inaugural scholarship recipient in 2016 following completion of his masters in public health and graduate certificate in diabetes. Prior to that he had been working as a research nurse with the diabetes team at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Myles has an interest in diabetes management in aged care, and experience working with adults and children and families living with diabetes.
Judy Broad, Aged Care Program Manager
Judy has worked in primary health organisations in program and senior management positions. Judy joined Diabetes Tasmania in 2017 and is now enjoying working with the team on ‘Diabetes and Older People’ national and local projects. Outside of work she enjoys travel, gardening and sharing time with family and friends.
Roberta Gates, Administration Coordinator - Hobart
Roberta has worked at Diabetes Tasmania since 2007. Roberta came to us with a background in Customer Service Management and is now our Administration Coordinator in the Hobart office. She enjoys coaching and playing netball in her spare time.
Lisa Burgess, Clinical Support Coordinator
Lisa has been with Diabetes Tasmania since 2007. She enjoys being part of a passionate team who all share the same goal of working together to reduce the impact of diabetes in our community. Originally from Victoria, Lisa loves visiting new places in Tasmania but when at home her happy place is in the kitchen.
Ange Headlam, Fundraising and Marketing Coordinator
Ange has been with Diabetes Tasmania since 2013. Her passions are helping people, social media, marketing and communications. Ange has over 17 years experience working within the not-for-profit sector. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her partner, family and friends, long Sunday lunches and photography.
Cally Snare, Accredited Practising Dietitian
Cally has worked with Diabetes Tasmania as an Accredited Practising Dietitian since 2015. She currently works on The COACH Program® and has a special interest in nutrition for heart health. Cally enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with her cat, Leo.
Ashlee Bice, Accredited Practising Dietitian
Ashlee is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian who joined Diabetes Tasmania in 2019 and works as a coach in The COACH Program®. During her spare time Ashlee studies Psychology and volunteers at an animal sanctuary.
Kristine Lord, Administration Coordinator - Launceston
Kristine has been with Diabetes Tasmania for 2 years, working in the Launceston office as Administration Coordinator. In her spare time she enjoys cooking good food, enjoying it with great friends and a good bottle of wine.
Fiona Horwood, Community Engagement Coordinator
Fiona is our community engagement coordinator. Her role involves liaising with various community groups, community health organisations and health professionals across the State. Fiona also oversees the peer support group program.
Phoebe Nelson, Accredited Practising Dietitian
Phoebe joined Diabetes Tasmania in 2019 after time spent working in rural NSW. She loves being able to talk about food all day, and in her spare time enjoys bushwalking, gardening and cooking for family and friends.
Emily Gatenby, Accredited Practising Dietitian
Em has been working for Diabetes Tasmania since 2008 and is an Accredited Practising Dietitian based in our Launceston office. She has been involved in numerous different roles including The COACH Program®, individual and group sessions and is now working in a community engagement role. Em is accident prone, talks a lot and likes to eat.
Elisa Williams, Clinical Manager - North, CDNE
Elisa has been a Credentialed Diabetes Nurse Educator for the past 20 years and is also one of our Clinical Managers. She enjoys working with people to help manage their diabetes and in her spare time loves family time and the outdoors, camping, caravanning and travelling.
Melanie Hortle, Accredited Practising Dietitian
Melanie is an Accredited Practising Dietitian based in our Launceston office. She is involved in The Coach Program®, as well as providing education to those living in the north through individual and group sessions. When she is not working or studying to become a diabetes educator, you will find her at home with her cat and husband.
Vanessa Stansbie, Accredited Practising Dietitian
Vanessa has worked in the diabetes area for over 15 years, and at Diabetes Tasmania since 2011. She is passionate about helping people with type 2 diabetes achieve their health goals, and also has a special interest in kidney disease. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, bush walking and walking on the beach, bike riding, sewing and travelling.
Neesha Poole, Administration and Customer Service
Neesha has been with Diabetes Tasmania since 2017. She started as a trainee doing a Certificate 3 in Business Administration which she has now completed. She loves spending time in the outdoors going on adventures with her partner.
Katie Taylor, Accredited Practising Dietitian
Currently on Maternity Leave - Katie is one of our Accredited Practising Dietitians who works out of the Hobart office. She will be returning to Diabetes Tasmania in 2021.
Anne Acheson, Credentialled Diabetes Nurse Educator
Anne is a credentialed diabetes educator and has been supporting people with diabetes for the last 13 years. Before that she was nursing in renal and critical care areas. Catching up with friends including ‘’The Bookworms’’ book club ladies, having lots of coffees (and maybe wine), walking and gardening keeps her out of mischief.
Gail Billings, Administration and Customer Service
Gail joined the Diabetes Tasmania Administration team in 2013 after working in the disability sector for 15 years. She enjoys assisting customers with their many and varied questions and directing them to the correct person who is most able to assist them. She has 3 grandchildren who she loves spending her free time with, she also loves creating amazing works of art and exploring the beaches for treasures.
Jessica Spinks, Credentialled Diabetes Nurse Educator
Jessica has been part of the Hobart team since 2017, working as a diabetes educator and youth program coordinator. She enjoys organising and attending our diabetes camps for children and adolescents with diabetes and helping make diabetes management at school easier for families. In her free time you’ll find her having brunch with friends, bush walking or baking treats for friends and colleagues.
Monica Stagg, Accredited Practising Dietitian
Monica completed her studies to become a dietitian in 2014 on the sunny Gold Coast. She returned home, and joined Diabetes Tasmania in ****. Monica is eager to support her local community and just as eager to indulge in all of the wonderful produce Tassie has on offer.
Ashlee Dean, Administration and Customer Service
Ashlee is part of the administration team in Hobart and has been working for Diabetes Tasmania since 2010. When not working Ashlee enjoys spending time with friends and family and walking her two dogs Ruby and Jackson.
Ree Van Galen, Diabetes Nurse Educator
Ree joined Diabetes Tasmania in 2017 after having worked at the RHH Diabetes Centre. She works as a Diabetes Educator and enjoys working with people one on one as well as running groups for people with diabetes and providing education for other health care providers. In her spare time she loves gardening, beekeeping, bike riding and kayaking. She has two gorgeous Bedlington Terriers who manage to keep her on her toes
Sandra Dodds, Administration and Customer Service
Sandra is part of our Administration Team working from the Launceston Office two days a week. Her main duty is booking people into The COACH Program. When Sandra is not working here at Diabetes Tasmania she is helping to run the family business with her husband, Paul. During her spare time Sandra likes going for walks, enjoys weekends away, and loves spending time relaxing with her family and friends.
Traci Lonergan, Credentialled Diabetes Nurse Educator / Nurse Practitioner
Traci joined the team at Diabetes Tasmania in 2011 as a Diabetes Nurse Educator. More recently she has completed a Master of Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in diabetes management, with the goal of increasing her scope to help empower people with diabetes to live their best life. When Traci is not working, she enjoys time with family and loves to ride with friends.
Meg OMara, Diabetes Nurse Educator
Meg has over 30 years nursing experience and joined the Diabetes Tasmania team in March 2020 as a Diabetes Nurse Educator in our Devonport office. In her spare time she enjoys relaxing with her family and pets as well as keeping active and going to the gym.
Meera Padmanabhan, Diabetes Nurse Educator
Meera is a Diabetes Nurse Educator and has been with Diabetes Tasmania since 2016, based in our Launceston Office. She is involved in providing education through group sessions like DESMOND, SMARTS and individual sessions. Meera has nearly 16 years of nursing experience, which involved Community Nursing, Renal Nursing and Palliative Care. She enjoys spending time with family and friends and loves travel around exotic places.
Amelia White, Accredited Practising Dietitian
Amelia joined Diabetes Tasmania in 2019 and is an accredited practising dietitian based in our Launceston office. She travels to various northern clinics to provide nutritional education to individuals. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, and basketball.
